It’s not my story but all of our stories. Here’s in a nutshell what the 16th Amendment to the US Consitution says:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
I was thinking about this as I rushed through the rain to the post office. In particular, the freedom to simply pay a Federal tax without regard to any sub entities such as a state. But cleariy states wanted apportionment so an individual has to pay taxes to mutiple entities apportioned under the federal umbrella.
But, in the news recently is a famous baseball player pardon granted by president Obama. Should one be free from the law of tax evasion simply because one is Willie McCovey? Or Donald Trump for that matter? The subject of pardons is beyond personal freedom or right?
Anyway, excuse the disjointed post for today. It’s a bit like a crooked turkey leg but one keeps on writing or at least making comments about matters of interest in the realm of freedom.
